About the Artist
Austin S. Lin is a painter whose work examines the weight of legacy—both personal and historical. In his current series, Lin’s portraits of scientific pioneers explore the cost of societal acceptance and the pursuit of discovery.
Lin’s practice garnered early recognition when juror Benny Andrews selected his work for the 2002 LaGrange National Biennial. Lin’s artistic foundation was forged in the early 2000s Atlanta art scene, a seminal period for the city’s cultural landscape. He was formally trained at the Atlanta College of Art (now SCAD Atlanta) under Eula Rodgers Ginsburg and mentored by Deanna Sirlin. His early career was shaped by the rise of influential collectives like Eyedrum, Ballroom Studios, and Nexus.
Today based in San Francisco, Lin continues to build on this lineage, blending the gritty, collaborative spirit of experimentation with a refined, conceptual approach to oil painting.
